Match report
On a lovely warm and sunny day, a correct call at the toss and the insistence of the whole team, I inserted the opposition. George and Slap kept the openers quiet and soon we were one wicket to the good. Veteran Matt Line came on next with James Marsh who looked like he was sporting a hangover, though he insisted that he'd only had one the night before. With a pretty dodgy pitch this pair started to take wickets - Matt ending up with 3 for 31 off his 13 over spell - not too shabby for an octogenarian! With James blowing, I thought I should have a bowl, but try as I might, I found that I had forgotten how and brought James back on and in his next four overs, he managed to take another five wickets leaving him with figures of 6 for 42 off 9.
The less said about tea the better.
Sparky and Charlie opened our innings and with only 136 to chase, they didn't have to take any chances. Charlie fell in the eleventh over with the score on 44 and Sparky went soon after with only 50 on the board. Jamie Line batted with his usual fluency, but James Marsh looked like his 'one' drink the night before was a gallon of rum! Jamie was caught at mid off having missed time another on drive and yours truly came in to bat, making James look very fluid! That said, we didn't lose another wicket and won the game by seven wickets with 29 overs to spare.
A special thank you to Chris Kettle, Nick Richardson and Peter Sussum who all did very well in the field but neither batted nor bowled.
Another good win thanks to a committed team effort - well done lads.
