Amersham v The Lee Cricket Club U13 XI on Wed 11 Jun 2014 at 18:00
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets
Match report
A lovely sunny June evening at the idyllic Shardeloes ground. Skipper Ben won the toss and decided to put Amersham in to bat first.
Their openers were solid, but not prolific, and some superb bowling and fielding from Matt, Felix, Robert and Freddie restricted the score to just 15 from the first 6 overs.
Then the wickets started to tumble, with Rob and then Freddie each bowling one out, and then Zach forcing a great catch from Sam and Ben bowling another one. Amersham had been pegged down to 41 for 4 after 11 overs.
Felix bowled the next over, and a mix up in the middle led to a superb run out from Sam, who demolished the sumps from 15 yards with just one stump to aim at!
Sam also bowled a good over, and there was some great work in the field from Ollie and Jacob to prevent what looked like certain boundaries.
Robert and Ben came back for the last few overs, and Rob bowled two more and Ben one, and John finished the innings with a tidy over at the end. Amersham finished on 76 for 8, which felt like a low score on a lovely pitch with a fast outfield.
After the interval Ben and Felix took to the field to open The Lee's innings. Amersham's opening bowler was very quick and accurate, and their second bowler was a deadly accurate spinner - both of them bowled their full four overs each from the outset, and The Lee were reduced to 37 for 4 after those eight overs - though Ollie had played a few wonderful shots, including a lovely straight drive for four, before missing one from the spinner and getting bowled.
Rob decided to hit out from the outset, and took a boundary from his first ball. He went on to get a total of 27, including three more boundaries, before he was trapped lbw.
Sam decided to play himself in gradually... for three balls! He then launched a massive six into the spectators by the clubhouse, narrowly missing Matt's Grandma! He also smacked three more fours on his way to a total of 21 not out.
When Rob was out there were just 6 more runs needed for victory, and there was a nervous moment when Jack got bowled, but in stepped John to calmly hit the winning runs and seal a comprehensive victory.
It was a fantastic performance all round, especially in the field - well done team!
