Match report The Bucks Under 11 Knock-Out Cup: David vs. Goliath

The final of this prestigious competition was played at The Lee Cricket Club on 14th July.

The participating teams were Chesham and The Lee, who had each won 4 matches to reach the final, which was played under the Barrington scoring rules (20 overs per side, 5 pairs of batsmen, each pair facing 4 overs, a starting score of 200 and 6 runs deducted for each wicket lost), this was a match between the 2 top sides in their league.

Chesham won the toss, and asked The Lee to bat. An extremely mature batting performance from every player meant that The Lee lost only 1 wicket in its innings. In the face of a very good bowling attack, which included county representatives at U11, steady accumulation meant a total of 269. Just how good a score that was soon became clear.

The bowling of The Lee attack was consistently accurate, and, as all season, backed up with superb out fielding and breath-taking catching (2 catches in particular were spectacular for any level of cricket).

Chesham wickets fell regularly, and every bowler took wickets. 18 were taken in all, leaving Chesham stranded on a paltry 204, and the Leslie Smith Shield with a new name to accompany those of High Wycombe, Amersham, Beaconsfield and other large clubs.

The team also won a trip to Lords with coaching from the MCC coaches and a tour of the historic ground. A huge stride forward for the players and their coaches, and a giant leap for The Lee Cricket Club.
