The Lee Cricket Club U13 XI v Chalfont St Peter on Sun 12 Jul 2015 at 10:00
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by 30 Runs
Match report
The Lee won the toss and chose to bowl, planning to use the overcast, slightly damp wicket to their advantage.
Initially tight bowling kept the run rate down ( Ben 0-6 and Jack 0-5) but unfortunately from the 7th over the bowling became inconsistent and the Lee conceded 35 extras through-out the match. Robert Frank, Zach Jeffery and James Edwards put up a battle and got 2, 1 and 1 wicket respectively. The Lee fielded with great ability and composure but unfortunately gave away far too many extras and didn't take enough wickets through their bowlers.
Chalfonts' score of 109 for 5 after 20 overs seemed attainable, based on earlier seasons performances with the bat.
The Lee came out to bat feeling confident. Ollie Rook drove the the first ball for 4 runs but was soon run out, a decision that the umpire later questioned as incorrect. Henry and John then fell for ducks instead of settling themselves in. A strong partnership between Jack and Ben then put 48 runs on the board with one huge 6 by Ben that scattered the spectator cows.
Chalfonts' bowling was accurate, though not challenging, but the Lee threw wickets away by not staying focussed. Through batsman rushing shots and making poor shot selection the Lee squandered wickets. Only 10 overs were bowled by the opposition to take our wickets!
