The Lee Cricket Club Sun XI v Jordans on Sun 01 May 2016 at 2:00pm
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by 187 runs
Match report
What a way to open the season and to christen my maiden captaincy!
The game started well for the first 5 or so overs Ed & Neil kept the run rate low after the traditional opening of the season beamers!
Morton (1) & Yolland (2) of Jordans put 33 on the board between them before Yolland was straight bowled by Glasgow. Then on came a new player John Whiting who put in a good performance bowling, followed by the reliable Jon Swain who bowled 8 straight overs for a very impressive 24-1.
Once Ian Jones had made a stunning diving catch off Swain to see off Morton, the deadly partnership of Goldsmith & Ryan set it. Having dropped Ryan early in his innings he took advantage and the pair set a partnership of 203.
From this point it didn't really seem to matter what the bowlers did, the batsmen were punishing everything Ryan hitting 7, fours and 6 sixes and Goldsmith hitting 14, fours and 5, sixes.
The Lee needed to chase down a massive 285, which we did not manage to do by a long shot!
Neil Glasgow was high scorer with 35 but Jordan's bowled very well, taking all the wickets in 28 overs leaving The Lee with 98 runs on the board :-/
What have I learnt?
No matter the situation you must keep your head up in the field and to be bold in making crazy decisions because you just never know how they might change the game when the chips are down!
