Great Kingshill v The Lee Cricket Club U15 XI (Old) on Thu 09 Jun 2016 at 18:00
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
A fantastic match won by The Lee on the penultimate ball.
Great Kingshill won the toss and elected to bat. Ben took 2 wickets for 7 runs in an early 3-over spell, and when Zach took a great catch diving forward off Matt's bowling, the score was 50 for 3 from 10 overs. Enter Charlie Line, our secret weapon guest U12, with a double-wicket maiden in his first over! Great Kingshill's no.5 then pushed the score along well and it wasn't until the 16th over that we forced a run out, followed by another from the last ball of the innings. Final score 112 for 7.
Opening the batting, Tom bludgeoned 3 boundaries in 4 balls, only to hole out from another big hit. Ben again pushed the scoring along with some great shots and aggressive running, before being caught on the boundary for 27. Rob then played a superb captain's innings, holding down his end then accelerating the scoring as wickets started to tumble. 6 runs were needed from the last over, then 3 from 3 balls; Freddie was run out diving for a 2nd run - 2 needed from 2 and Rob belted the ball to the outfield to secure victory and finish on an unbeaten 44. Deep joy among the players and spectators.
Special mention must go to Charlie Line and Walter Burgham, two very game U12 players who stepped up bravely to play their part in a thoroughly entertaining match.
