Ballinger v The Lee Cricket Club Sun XI on Sun 01 Jul 2018 at 13:30
The Lee Cricket Club Won By 7 Wickets

Match report After The Lee U9's inflicted a 5 run defeat on Ballinger in the morning, it was time of the Sunday XI in the afternoon.

On a sweltering July afternoon, Julian Swain (acting Captain for the weekend) lost the toss and Ballinger chose to bat first in the usual Timed game format they like to play.

The Lee went out into the field with a very strong team and showed that from the beginning with Ben Harris (5 overs for 18) and Ed Boakes (6 overs, 1 for 15) sharing a good (if unfruitful, only 1 wicket between them) opening bowling partnership for the first 11 overs, on a very flat and lifeless wicket. Rob Walsh (6 overs, 1 for 27) and Harry Rice (8 overs for 37) then took up the bowling duties and Ballinger just continued to tick over. Around the 23rd over Jon Swain (6 overs, 2 for 15) came into the attack with Ballinger continuing along until 2 suicidal run outs in 2 balls, one direct hit from Ben Harris and another indirect from Alex Morgan saw Ballinger slip to 123-5. Guy Morgan (5 overs, 2 for 12) joined the attack in the 30th, this partnership bought about a further 4 wickets (one of which was a sensational 1 handed, left handed catch by James Cook, stood at short extra cover about 8yrds from the batsman) seeing Ballinger slip further still to 140-8. Another direct hit run out from Alex Morgan followed in the 37th over bought off the bowling of Jonny Bellwood (3 overs for 15). The 40th over was bowled by James Cook (0.4 overs, 1-0), well, I say over, it only last 4 eventful balls. First ball was treated with respect and defended, 2nd ball was hit in the air to Ed Boakes who didn't see it till late and didn't make ground in time, 3rd ball was a very good LBW shout that was turned down (not sure why as looked out) but finally James got his man with Guy Morgan return the favour from the earlier stunner with a nice simple catch at point. Ballinger ending on 154 all out.

After tea, Julian Swain (37) and Alex Morgan (59) went out and The Lee were soon well ahead and in control. After Julian perished Mike Harris (2) came and went bring his son Ben Harris (37*) to the crease and when Alex perished in the 20th over Jonny Bellwood (1*) came and generally watched from the other end as Ben but Ballinger to the sword and finishing it off with a straight drive for 4 at the end of the 24th over. This meant that The Lee won by 7 wickets and with 18 overs of the match remaining.

A very comprehensive victory for The Lee over their old rivals! Bring on another win next season!
