The Lee Cricket Club 2nd XI v Pinner 2nd XI on Sat 25 May 2019 at 13:00
The Lee Cricket Club Lost
Match report
This was the second of back-to-back fixtures against Pinner 2 - but we fielded a much changed team, with no less than 4 players making their debuts for the club, and one more playing his first senior match.
James Sharman was skipper for this one, and was asked to bowl first at the toss. Ed Boakes opened the bowling in fine fashion, taking out their opener with his second ball - a very rapid inswinger. Unfortunately it would be another 18 overs before we struck again, when James Newbury trapped the other opener lbw, but by this time the score was over 125. There were great debut bowling spells for our two youngsters, David and Ethan, and a tight spell from veteran Andy Knott, but their number 3 was in fine form - going on to get 117. Unfortunately he hit one massive six right through the rear window of Knotty's car, which was tucked away behind the clubhouse . Skipper James had held himself back from bowling until the 30 over mark - but as soon as he brought himself on the wickets started tumbling, with him taking three in his first two overs. He and Ed both took fine caught & bowled's, and Pinner got to 287-7 by the time they declared after 40 overs.
Our opening batsmen Ed Boakes and David Tossell narrowly missed out on a 50 opening partnership - getting to 47 before David missed one and was bowled. Ed carried on and anchored the innings, getting a very solid 75. Beyond that though we didn't put up too much resistance to their accurate bowling, and ended up all out for 130.
So, a similar result to last week's against the same opponents, but a much more encouraging performance, including some fine batting and bowling displays, and really good to welcome 5 new players (including two father-son combinations) into the 2nd XI.
