Jordans v The Lee Cricket Club Sun XI on Sun 05 May 2019 at 13:00
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 96 runs
Match report
The Sunday XI played its 3rd match against Jordans at Coleshill. The captain called successfully, winning his 3rd toss in a row, and chose to bat. In the absence of the 2 centurions from the previous 2 matches, it fell to the rank and file to gather the runs. A difficult pitch brought challenges to the fluency of the batsmen, and after the early loss of Harris Snr, a blend of age and youth got things moving. A partnership of 69 between Rob Walsh (27) and Jon Swain (67), in which they rode their luck, set a good base for another excellent innings from Harris Major (61), mixing care and an ability to dispatch any loose bowling. An entertaining and typically hard-hitting 26 from Harry Hutt was followed by 23 from Ed Boakes, and we totalled 230; a really good score on an awkward surface.
The Jordans reply began slowly despite attacking fields. Harry Hutt bowled with real pace, and little luck. We have appreciated his brief 'warm-up' appearances Opening at the other end, we welcomed Stephen Gardner, a fugitive from South Australia, here for the season with his wife Caitlin. An atypically reserved and polite Aussie, he made the breakthrough with a well deserved dismissal, allowing the captain to atone for a fluffed catch by hanging on to a rather easier one. Each bowling change brought success, with only Hutt and Harris Minor wicketless. Sam Harris batted and bowled extremely well, and fielded with enthusiasm as ever. Jordans were never in the hunt, and were all out for 130, after a really good session of out-cricket from The Lee.
Three wins in a row to start our season, and we can expect a sterner test against Hyde Heath next Sunday.
