Great work
1. Reece – very accurate bowling – bowled a rare maiden in the 2nd over. Ran some good singles when batting and great work out in the field.
2. Ty – great fielding and communication. Hit a cracking 4 off his Beaconsfield Rugby teammate Malachi, and bowled his left arm deliveries with good rhythm.
3. Oliver – very economical bowling, excellent bowling action. Brilliant run out with a pinpoint throw. Scored a lovely four in the 7th over. 3rd highest Lee run scorer.
4. Emmy – Fabulous stumping in the 3rd over, great bowling – only had 1 run scored off her. Scored well off a bowler who bowled a lot of wides (not many scoring opportunities).
5. Alex – very accurate and economical bowling effort. His long throws from the field kept their score down, and confident batting – really concentrated.
6. Iris – in her first ever cricket game, she demonstrated her player of the match credentials from Friday by continuing to bowl very accurately. Excellent calling when batting, and strong in the field.
7. William – Bowled out their player in the 6th over with a beautiful delivery. Really attacked the ball in the field, making it harder for them to take singles.
8. Jenny – Great movement in the field to ensure nothing got past her and positive, accurate bowling.
9. Jess – Joint top run scorer. Incredibly accurate throwing in from the field, one of which got a run out in the 6th over. Scored a stunning 4 in the penultimate over, then next ball demonstrated her great calling by running a two, then a single next ball. Great all round performance – will be leading the calling drills on Friday evenings.
10. Oscar – Joint top run scorer. Fast, accurate bowling kept their batters on the back foot. Scored a lovely 4 in the 18th over, and supported by Jess’s calling took several singles and a two.

Team Successes
Ed and I are so proud of our Lee U9s – we select the team based on availability – our belief is that everyone should get to play – it’s important to have fun and gradually learn the skills of cricket and teamwork. Better that than focus on selecting the ‘best’ players week in week out, and excluding some kids from a chance to play this wonderful game. We are trying to build the foundations for a strong team of empowered characters who support each other, possess a team ethos, have a deep skills base and play in the right spirit. We want them to take risks rather than be scared of doing so.
As the headmaster of Will Greenwood’s son said to him recently, “Don’t let the urgent get in the way of the important.” (Member of England’s Rugby World Cup winning side in 2003, in case you don't know your rugby...)
• Our bowling improved after our bunny ears bowling drill (thanks to all the parents who repeated this on Saturday – it really helped the kids – please keep it up – we only get them for 90 minutes a week – so additional practice really makes a difference)
• Fielding much better and kids were talking much more after our calling drills on Friday.
• 3 of the 4 wickets we got came from run outs – a brilliant return and again shows the kids are communicating and understanding this part of the game much better.
• Backstop behind the wicket keeper saved a lot of byes – great work team! Wicketkeepers learning to adjust how far back they stand depending on speed of bowler.
• Bowling then stopping – this continues to improve week by week – some bowlers do not continue to run down wicket after releasing ball – keep practicing bunny ears bowling at home.
• Calling – much improved after our drills on Friday. A couple of over enthusiastic calls led to run outs that is to be expected as the kids get to understand how to make their own decisions in the field.
• Not hitting wides – much better this time

Areas to work on
• Batting – focus on improving core technique, like bunny ears bowling
• Wicket keeping – keep practicing the stance to ensure they get in the right potion, so they most effectively stop the ball. Could also demonstrate the new way of taking the ball in front
• Explain basics – can run even if don’t hit it to get byes, or if hits legs (leg byes), or on overthrows
