The Lee Cricket Club 2nd XI v Denham 2nd XI on Sat 18 Jul 2020 at 13:00
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 2 runs
Match report
Finally amid glorious sunshine our season started. Our nervousness about being asked to bat was assuaged through Ed's high quality driving getting us off to a marvelous start. Once the openers were dismissed, Sam and Neil put on a solid stand which was only broken through the most blatant jug avoidance I've seen on a cricket field. Sam batted through unbeaten and ended the innings with a big six over the shed. How important would that be?
Ed and David opened the bowling with a tight spell backed up by some brilliant fielding. But no breakthrough. Our change bowlers worked their magic though with first Oscar's away swinger nicked to gully where Tor took a tumbling catch. Then Jack nipped one out and Tor came in with a big inducker to get the third. But Denham were batting well, and had started to put runs on the Board. In comes The Morgs, bowling a parsimonious spell that started building pressure. From the other end Ed, getting the wicket we needed and David bowling a wonderful tight spell, and suddenly the run rate needed was up to 9. With 5 overs to go, 45 needed. Oscar bowled a pressure over, calm as anything and Jack bowled a great line from the Pavillion end. But Denham fought back, and with 2 balls left needed 3 runs. Jack vs Denham. Play and a miss. A dot! We dared to hope. Jack vs Denham part 2. Quick outside off, sailing into Pat's safe hands who affected the run out to see us home.
Well done to the 2's, especially our colts, who stood up and delivered in a tight game. You were the difference between winning and losing.
