Match report
Captain's match report, by Freddie Hastings:
It was a great experience to be able to get to together for the first pre match session and chat of the season. As I went out to do the toss I was amused by the fact that the opposing captain claimed he had money of his own for the toss but the umpire said he will use his own. We shook hands and umpire asked If i wanted heads or tails. Heads I chose. I now realise I was wrong. Chesham's captain won the toss and made us bat first. We lost two early wickets but clawed our way back in. Freddy and I got a good partnership going and then I got out. Then out of nowhere Freddy and Tegan started absolutely crunching in. Freddy was playing like Ben Stokes ( to a certain extent ) and Tegan was hitting ball after ball into the boundary. After an astonishing 25 balls Freddy had to retire and got a standing ovation. Then welcome to the stage Toby Walder Davies on his first hard ball match for the Lee. What a opening to batting he had. Scoring lots of crucial runs. A few balls after Tegan and Toby had started to get a partnership Tegan got run out at the bowlers end after a magnificent innings. Millie came on to join Toby in the hunt for some runs and I think she may have found them. She hit some lovely shots including a beautiful shot of the pads into fine leg for four. After a few overs of brilliant batting Max and William decided to join the fun and didn't they just. Some lovely shots and great communication, I even heard William say "wait!" ( which from my point of view is a miracle, ask Freddy ). Right at the end Oscar came in and played the innings of his life playing some wonderful shots. Then our unbelievable batting streak had to come to an end. 89 of 20 overs what a score. .........
After a very inspirational team talk from me ( which was just LETS GO AND WIN THIS) I opened the bowling getting a wicket in the first over and then Freddy B repeated the trick ( is there something he doesn't do) and also got a wicket. Freddy and I repeated the bowling until the 4th over and then It was Tegan's turn. Then Oscar Smedley had a bowl and I don't think any of expected the standard of bowling he produced. Wow. The bowling was something special. He may not have got any wickets but he could have got 112. Also a mention to Ben and William who are the best wicket keepers I have ever seen. Some of those stops wow. As the game went one we stopped hitting hundreds of wickets a second to taking runs away from them. After some stunning bowling performances from Eddie and Max, Ben had to switch with William for Wickie after 10 overs and from there we carried on from where we left off. Some stunning performances in bowling from Alex, Millie and Toby ( who in which got me a catch, thanks I've been needing some of those). As the game was coming to a close Ben put in a great and vital over for us conceding very little.
I bowled the final over in which it finished as a tie on a total of 89 a piece. I mean wow that's quite a dramatic first game of the season but this season for the u12's is going to be great if we carrying on playing on like that and helping each other out. And then thanks to Millie for being the vice captain which really helped me out and Jasper who gave us all support and was good enough to play on both teams in the process.
