The Lee Cricket Club U11 X v Chesham C on Sun 10 Jun 2012 at 10:00
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets
Match report
The weather behaved long enough for the pitch to dry out and we enjoyed perfect conditions on a fine Sunday morning. Sadly, that's about as far as our luck went!
Chesham C won the toss and elected to bowl. Zach and Jack made a solid start, taking the score to 13 in after 4 overs before Zach was bowled by a good one. Jack was caught a few balls later, straight after cracking a lovely four. Robert then pushed the pace along with a couple of fine boundaries before being run out pushing a bit too hard. Abdul and Sam then held firm against some good bowling before both falling in the same over. 40 for 5 after 10 overs. Oliver played himself in with a boundary before becoming the first of three wickets in one maiden over - joined by Charlie (dubious lbw) and Freddie (bowled). Matthew and Finn held firm for a couple more overs but were both caught trying to push the score up. All out for 58 runs after 14 overs.
Sam took a marvellous running/diving catch off Matthew's bowling in the 3rd over, and when Robert clean bowled their other opening batsman next over a win still looked on the cards. Enter one solid batsman and one shot maker though, the latter racing to 30 runs off 15 balls, including 6 boundaries, to reach the target off just 8 overs.
There's no doubt the lads were well beaten but there were positives to take from the game and, with the spirit they all show, a well-deserved win is surely just around the corner.
