Ley Hill v The Lee Cricket Club U12 XI on Sun 16 Jun 2013 at 09:45
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 60 runs

Match report After four consecutive home games, this was our first away fixture of the season. It was a cloudy, but thankfully dry Sunday morning, on the pretty ground at Ley Hill which is wedged in-between holes on the local golf course. The opposition captain won the toss and decided to put The Lee in to bat.

Robert and Felix opened the batting, and soon found the measure of the artificial strip, hitting the ball cleanly back down the wicket for a flurry of singles and well taken two's. Felix was unfortunately run out after some sharp opposition fielding, and then Sam was very unlucky to be bowled by one that kept very low.

By this time we had seen off Ley Hill's opening bowlers, and Robert and James decided to have a go at the change bowlers. Robert mistimed a drive to hole out to mid-on, but James went on to strike five glorious boundaries on his way to an unbeaten thirty.

Matthew continued the excellent batting, sweeping two boundaries down to the square leg boundary and forcing lots of singles and twos. Zach was very unlucky to be run out to by an excellent bit of wicket keeping, leaving George and Matthew not out at the end of the innings.

After the allotted twenty overs The Lee had posted a very good score of 99 for 4... but was that going to be enough?

In a new bowling order, Robert, Matthew, Felix, Abdul, James and Zach all had one over each to start with, and the tactic worked spectacularly, with the opposition's top order blown away their score restricted to just 9 runs for 3 wickets at the end of the first five overs.

Overall Matt and Zach each bagged a brace, including a great caught and bowled by Matt, and a fabulous catch by Felix from Zach's bowling. Robert, Felix, Zach and George all managed to hit the stumps to clean bowl the opposition batsmen, and there were more great catches George and Felix. Zach, Freddie and Jayden also bowled some very tight overs, not giving Ley Hill anything loose to go at.

All the team contributed in the field, including a great bit of fielding by Jacob and James to prevent what looked like a certain boundary. In fact Ley Hill weren't allowed to score a single boundary in their whole innings, and they ended up with a total of 39 for 8 after their twenty overs.

So, a wonderful all round team performance and an emphatic (and overdue) victory by a massive margin of 60 runs. Well done team, and roll on the next game!
