The Lee Cricket Club U11 X v Chalfont St Peter on Sun 12 May 2013 at 10:00
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 66 runs

Match report The first game of the season for the U11 team was a home cup match against Chalfont St Peter. There had been heavy rain overnight, so the pitch was a bit damp, but overhead conditions were bright and breezy. Captain Killian won the toss and elected to bat first.

Opening pair Killian and Finn wasted no time in attacking Chalfont’s bowlers, who were struggling to get any pace on the ball on the damp pitch. Both batsmen hit a succession of boundaries, moving the score rapidly up to 36 before the first wicket fell. Finn misjudged a drive and was bowled.

Robert F came in at number three, and hit a powerful four with his first ball, but was unlucky to be out later that over when he chipped one straight back into the bowlers arms. Jack came in next, and repeated Robert’s feat of hitting a four first ball, only to then be bowled by the next delivery.

John G came in at number five, with the score on 51 for 3, and immediately set about smashing the ball around the ground. He and Killian sensed that a big total was possible, and accelerated the run rate with lots of quick singles and some cracking boundaries.

Killian soon reached the 30 run point (at which U11 players must retire), bringing Charlie into the crease. He was also unfortunate to be caught and bowled after mis-judging a drive. Oliver M was next in, and hit a lovely shot for a single off his first ball.

The Lee’s innings came to a close with John not out on 28, and a very competitive total of 125 posted.

Jack, Charlie, Zach and Ollie R bowled the first five overs and only conceded 10 runs between them. Henry then came in to bowl some of his slinky specials, and took two wickets for 12 runs in his three overs.

Oliver T, Oliver Mac and John G all bowled maiden overs, helping to restrict the Chalfont scoring rate, and some superb team fielding helped force a run out.

Finn and Robert also bowled some tight overs before Killian then finished off the innings with a devastating burst, taking three wickets for just six runs.

After their twenty overs, Chalfont had scored 59 for 6, meaning The Lee won the match by 66 runs. Killian was the man of the match for his knock of 30 not out and 3 wickets taken.

This was a fantastic start to the season and a great team effort, with important contributions from every player – well done everyone!
