Marlow Town v The Lee Cricket Club U11 X on Sun 16 Jun 2013 at 10:00
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by three wickets
Match report
A cloudy but dry Sunday morning saw the U11 team travelling away to the well organised Marlow Town club.
Captain John won the toss, and elected to bat first. He opened with Finn and faced some competent and consistent bowling. There were great contributions from all the batsmen, with John, Robert and Harvey all hitting boundaries and getting into double figures. Some great fielding by Marlow kept the score down to a competitive 62 for 6 after the twenty overs.
The Marlow openers started very positively, scoring several fours in quick succession, but our bowlers and fielders upped their game, and took some great wickets, including a fabulous catch by Charlie at point. All of the team apart from wicket-keeper Robert got to bowl at least one over, with Harvey and Otto getting two wickets each, and also Charlie, Louis and Jake getting one each.
With five overs left, Marlow only needed 7 runs, and defeat looked certain - but some really great work in the field meant that when it came to the final over the scores were level when it came to the final over, though Marlow had lost one more wicket - so we needed a maiden over to win the game. Harvey managed to get three dot-balls in, but couldn't prevent the fourth ball being swept for two - meaning Marlow just edged in front, winning by three wickets with two balls to spare.
It was an agonising end to a very tight and well contested match. The U11 squad is getting stronger and stronger with every game they play.
