The Lee Cricket Club U13 XI v Stokenchurch on Sun 01 Jun 2014 at 10:30
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by 24 runs
Match report
A beautiful, sunny Sunday morning at HQ. Stokenchurch won the toss and elected to bat. Rob and Matt, then Jack and Ben kept scoring off the bat low but extras pushed the run-rate to 4 per over until the first wicket fell in the 8th – a sharp run-out by Rob. In rolled Felix with the first of 3 excellent wickets but the next partnership pushed the score up to 81 before Ben took a great catch in the 17th over. Felix took his 3rd scalp and Ben took a deserved wicket but 15 off the last over took the Stokenchurch total to 108 for 6, extras top-scoring on 38. Oops.
Ben and Jack opened The Lee’s innings. Ben scored 3 quick boundaries but both batsmen had gone by the 4th over, followed by Felix despite a couple of boundaries of his own. Rob came in to steady the innings while Matt then Zach both played themselves in but fell to the same bowler. Sam came in at no.7 to join Rob, with orders to play it safe and keep out the straight ones. His first ball flew over the fence into the cow field for 6 and the second one skidded under his flaying bat and hit middle stump. You win some, you lose some! Rob eventually had to retire not out on 31 - a really excellent knock again. Ollie treated us to his own cameo with two huge straight drives and was unfortunate to be run out when we had to chase the runs. Freddie, John and Jake tried hard to make up the deficit but we fell 24 runs short.
Interesting fact: we scored 7 more off the bat than Stokenchurch but gave away 31 more extras. Guess what we’ll be practicing this week! Still it was a very enjoyable match with some great performances, particularly from Rob with the bat and man-of-the-match Felix with the ball.
