Chesham B v The Lee Cricket Club U15 XI (Old) on Thu 21 Jul 2016 at 18:00
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 59 runs
Match report
A convincing win for the U15 team in their last league game of the season, despite 3 regular players being unavailable.
The Lee batted first. With a few players running late for the start, Abdul manfully stepped in to open but fell for a duck. Tom, Felix and Rob all helped themselves to a few boundaries before each being bowled too. Charlie was very unfortunate to be caught off a ball that may or may not have hit bat rather than pad, and Sam hit a monstrous six before holing out going for broke again. At 73 for 6 things were looking a bit wobbly, especially when James A was then caught. But Ben and George not only steadied the ship but plundered many boundaries in an unbeaten partnership of 56 from 6 overs, Ben ending not out 45 and again only just missing out on a deserved half-century.
There was solid bowling by The Lee all through the Chesham innings. Matt clean-bowled their dangerous opener in the 5th over then ran out the other one with a smart throw from cover. The Chesham no.3 picked up the run rate with some good boundaries but then top-edged George to Charlie behind the stumps. A 2nd catch off George by Tom 2 balls later helped restrict the score to 56 for 4 off 11 overs, and in truth Chesham never looked like they would come close to the required total. When James A held an excellent catch in the deep off the penultimate ball, they were still 56 runs behind.
Special mention to Charlie Line from the U12 team, who kept wicket really well, not giving away a single bye.
So a great end to a really good season. Only 2 matches lost all season: one a valiant run-chase in the cup against the eventual winners, and the other a blip against Taplow, who ended up well down the league.
