Braywood 2nd XI v The Lee Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 26 May 2018 at 13:00
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by 63 runs
Match report
After our first two matches of the season were conceded by our opponents, it was with some dismay that we heard our scheduled opponents for today (Littlewick Green) had also conceded - but Braywood 2nd XI also had no match, and so we hastily organised this 40 over a side friendly in its place. Skipper Rob won the toss and put them into bat on a softish strip quite close to the edge of the square adjacent to the field of grazing polo ponies. It was a very short boundary, and their left handed opener was able to pull anything short straight into the field. Sam Harris took a magnificent catch at mid-on to remove one opener, but the breakthrough really came when James Newbury came on to bowl, and took a wicket with his first ball, followed by two more in the same over, and two later, to give him Amer-Lee's first ever five wicket haul. This slowed down Braywood's advance, but their powerful batting line up ended up on 247-8 from their forty overs.
The star of our innings was Benson D'Costa, who hit a magnificent 93, which included five sixes (one of which landed on the roof of his car!!). There were also sixes from Steve Pain and Ryan James, but we fell short and ended up on 184-9, losing by 63 runs.
This was a very credible result against a team two divisions above us in the league, and sets us up well for the league games to come, where we will look to consolidate our position as league leaders (after three games conceded to us!!)
