Beaconsfield v The Lee Cricket Club U9X on Mon 25 Jun 2018 at 6pm
The Lee Cricket Club Lost By 77 Runs

Match report 25-Jun-2018: Lee CC U9 X vs Beaconsfield away

Result
• 233-10 The Lee
• 310-5 Beaconsfield
• The Lee lost by 77 runs. Beaconsfield were the best team we have faced this season – they have won all 5 of their games this season. They had a solid, fast paced bowling attack.

Analysis
• We scored 53 runs vs their 63 runs (-10 runs) [above our average of 45 for games 1-4]
• We gave away 54 runs on wides/no balls, they did 36 runs (-18 runs) [better than our average of 58 for games 1-4]
• We gave away 23 runs on byes/leg byes, they did 4 runs (-19 runs) [we have only conceded 2 runs in our 1st 4 games – this was due to the pitch having very short boundary behind the wicket keeper, and we didn’t adapt to the ground quickly enough. All these came of the faster bowlers]
• We lost 10 wkts vs their 5 wkts (-30 runs) [We lost 2 bowled, 6 caught and 2 run out. Beaconsfield lost 1 bowled, 2 caught and 2 run outs]
• This contributed overall to a 77 run defeat.

Great work
1. Ty good batting scoring lots of singles and 2s – running between wickets excellent – 5th highest run scorer. Good throwing at stumps to get ball back in quickly. Took a wicket (well caught by Daniel).
2. Freddie good calling with Ty. A brilliant run out in the 3rd over off Emmy’s bowling. Accurate bowling with only 1 wide.
3. Emmy batted like a demon, scoring 2 fours and taking a quick single – well run with Jess. Emmy was the joint 2nd highest run scorer. Her bowling was outstanding - not a single wide. She was fast in the field and played the whole game with a huge smile on her face.
4. Jess as ever did brilliant calling batting with Emmy. She bowled accurately and ran like the wind in the field. Great wicket keeping
5. Iris and Jenny were unlucky to face 2 of the fastest bowlers from Beaconsfield, but batted bravely against the onslaught and took her runs well, calling brilliantly and sprinting between the wickets. Chased well in the field. Bowled well and stopped several runs as wicket keeper.
6. Jenny, as with Iris, bravely faced the fast bowling and called well. Great throws into the stumps to put pressure on the batters. Good bowling.
7. Daniel brilliant batting, hunting the gaps in the field, and finishing top scorer with 14 runs. Took a great catch off Ty’s bowling and nearly got a caught and bowled, managed to stop the ball hit hard. Fast and economical bowling, and good chasing in the field.
8. Oliver scored at a good run rate, some very keen calling and a brilliant full length dive to avoid being run out. Great fielding and excellent bowling once he got into his natural rhythm.
9. Charlie strong batting partnership with Zach, good calling, finishing 4th highest run scorer. Fast in the field as ever, putting pressure on their batters. Very accurate bowling – not a single wide.
10. Zach great bowling and stopping in the field and great catching. Strong batting, finished joint 2nd highest run scorer – he faced an accurate bowling attack and picked his shots well. Good calling with Charlie.

Team Successes
Ed and I are very proud of our Lee U9s – they are developing as a team.
• Our bowling improved. We will continue to run bowling drills to get the kids more confident in a match situation, and further improve consistency and accuracy.
• 2 of the 5 wickets we got came from run outs – a brilliant return and again shows the kids are communicating and understanding this part of the game much better.
• Bowling then stopping – this continues to improve week by week – some bowlers do not continue to run down wicket after releasing ball – keep practicing bunny ears bowling at home.
• Not hitting wides – much better this time

Areas to work on
• Batting – focus on improving core technique, so we can hit a higher percentage of balls. Get used to some faster bowling to ensure kids feel more comfortable doing so.
• Backstop behind the wicket keeper saved a few of byes – remember to stand back for the faster bowlers, especially on a short boundary like Beaconsfield. (Wicketkeepers are learning to adjust how far back they stand depending on speed of bowler).
• Wicket keeping – keep practicing the stance to ensure they get in the right position, so they most effectively stop the ball.
• Fielding – getting body behind the ball (e.g. long barrier), and a good accurate throw to a fielder/wicket keeper stood right next to the stumps.
• Calling – it’s great to see the team getting more vocal. Work on who calls – in the game we sometimes had one saying yes and one saying no, and ended up with both batters at one end several times. Remind them that if the ball goes in front of the batter, he/she calls; if it goes behind the batter the non-striking batter calls.
• Explain basics – can run even if don’t hit it to get byes, or if hits legs (leg byes), or on overthrows
