The Lee Cricket Club Sun XI v Full Tossers on Sun 02 Jun 2019 at 13:00
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets
Match report
We enjoy our annual fixture against the Tossers; they always play in the right spirit, and the weather always seems good. Having won the toss, the Tossers inserted The Lee, and play got under way with a solid 23 from Mike Harris, an excellent 52 from Ben Harris, good contributions form Stephen Gardner and Ed Boakes before a highly entertaining 60 not out from Harry Hutt. Five 6s went a long way to helping us to a reasonable 229 off 40 overs.
Following our usual excellent spread of tea, the Full Tossers commenced their reply. After losing early wickets, Russell Edwards (73) steadied the innings, and then in partnership with Jack Rubin, turned the tide for the visitors. Good bowling from Rob Pickles 1-34 from 6 overs supported the opening burst from Harry Hutt and Ed Boakes. The weather then played an important role, and after a break fro rain, we resumed but now with a wet ball. This made it much more difficult to control and was challenging for the fielders. Sam Harris bowled some very promising leg spin, but it was clear that 229 was going to be difficult to defend in the conditions. A return to bowling fitness for Jon Swain brought a reduction in the scoring rate, and the game went to the last over, before Rubin (71*) hit a 6 to seal a win for the Tossers.
A good game, and if the weather had stayed fine, who knows? We lost by bowling 14 wides and 7 no-balls; that equates to 3.3 extra overs plus 21 bonus runs... the Tossers bowled 4 wides and no no-balls.
