The Lee Cricket Club U11 X v Wooburn on Thu 02 Jun 2011 at 18:00
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 50 runs
Match report
Our third match of the season was held on a beautiful sunny evening at The Lee. The half-term holidays meant that our opponents, Wooburn, could only muster 8 players, and so forfeited the match. In order to make it a competitive friendly, Finn and Oskar sportingly volunteered to play for Wooburn to balance up the numbers. Some of the younger members of the Lee squad got to play their first ever game - and they all did very well!
Wooburn won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opening the batting, captain Sam Smith immediately set to work smashing six boundaries in fifteen balls. The rest of the batting was very solid, with Jack, Killian and Matthew all hitting boundaries. Only two wickets were lost in the whole innings, and a competitive total of 323 was posted.
Roddy and Robert W were the opening bowlers for the home team. Their first overs were both expensive, but then they suddenly clicked into gear. In his second over, Roddy bowled one batsman, and forced another to be run out. Robert then clean bowled three batsmen in a row for a stunning hat-trick.
The fielding in general was very sharp, and the junior players making their debuts were all excellent in the field - particularly Charlie, who took a wonderful run out with a direct hit from mid-wicket. At the end of their 20 overs Wooburn had reached 273 for 6 wickets.
All in all, it was an excellent match, and the first win of the season for the under 10's.
