Chearsley Saturday 2nd XI v The Lee Cricket Club Sun XI on Sun 01 May 2011 at 14:00
The Lee Cricket Club Won By 9 Runs
Match report
The Lee CC Sunday XI produced their 3rd win on the bounce to retain their unbeaten start to the season away at Chearsley. After what can only be described as indifferent batting at the start of the innings and some good bowling from the opposition they were reduced to 40-5 when a young stallion marched to the crease unfazed by the chaotic scenes unfolding before him, a young run hungry Harry Rice took the attack to the Chearsley bowling with some mighty blows including 4 consecutive 4’s in a knock of 57 until he was ruthlessly cut down in the last over by his elegant batting partner James Cook who produced some of the day’s most audacious shots. Special mention also goes to Fraser Perceval for a very solid 13 including a few stunning shots of his own.The Lee ended on 150 slightly disappointed but with their fantastic team spirit eager to make amends. It was now the turn of the feared Lee bowling attack and after a few wayward over’s from Boakes and Rice the hosts reaches 50 without loss. A couple of wickets then fell but the Lee where very much behind the game until Cook took the catch of the year diving backward into a vicious head wind to grasp on to the last dying embers of victory and to send his team mates into raptures of applause the Lee could now see a glint of hope which then lead to a quite brilliant fight back with Yeabsley and Perceval playing the game of their lives with the Ball and reducing the opposition to 104-7 a few nervous overs then proceeded with fielders using all parts of the body to stop the ball but after key wickets from Boakes and Marsh the Lee wrapped up a tense 9 run win out of the doldrums of defeat. Chearsley looked on for an easy win but a mention has to go to Yeabsley and Perceval for a stunning fight back yielding 4 and 3 wickets respectively. The team spirit was excellent and can probably be hailed as the main reason for the win.
