Match report
There was a nailbiting finish to this end of season friendly... but unfortunately not in our favour.
Skipper Rob won the toss and elected to bowl first, and decided to take the wicket-keeping gloves for the first time in a match. It was a slow pitch and a very slow outfield, so boundaries were hard to come by, and some excellent tight bowling and a steady flow of wickets restricted Wendover to what seemed a low total of 89. Highlights were four wickets for George, two for Freddie, two stumpings by Rob and an excellent catch at full stretch by Matt.
A jumbled up batting order saw Matt and Freddie as a new opening partnership, and they did well to soak up the opening few overs, before falling to some quick bowling. Tom and Felix built a good partnership and got the scoreboard ticking over, until Felix was appeared to nick one to the keeper. Sam came in and (as usual) set about demolishing the attack with a quickfire 17 of 12 balls.
With 5 wickets in hand and only 16 runs needed off the last five overs, we looked set for a comfortable win...but then Wendover brought back their opening bowlers, and there was a flurry of wickets, and by the last ball we were still three runs short of a victory.
As a friendly it was a great match in which everyone got to bat - we will beat them next time!
