Littlewick Green 2nd XI v The Lee Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 23 Jun 2018 at 13:00
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by seven wickets
Match report
On a warm and sunny day at the beautiful setting of Littlewick Green - skipper James won the toss and bravely elected to bat first. However, the decision soon backfired when their opening bowler (Isherwood) skittled Felix's wicket with the first ball of the match, and then did exactly the same to Steve with the next ball. Debutant Andy found himself in at number four to face only the third ball of the match, and managed to survive the over and the next. However, Ishewood's third over was even more devastating than his first, as David, James and then Jordan all lost their wickets, and we were staring down the barrel at 10 for 6 after just five overs. It looked like being a very short match! Andy steadied the ship a little with a few boundaries, and Ron and Matt provided a little support and we managed to creep the score up to 49 for 9 after 23 overs. It was left to Moyne and Pat to try and salvage some respectability in the scoreline. Moyne did this by playing some lovely sweeps, drives and cut shots, whilst Pat used a more agricultural range of slashes, edges and chips through the fielders hands to somehow manage to survive for another twenty overs, and set an Amer-Lee record last wicket partnership of 80 and at least something to bowl at with a total of 129.
Littlewick Green didn't waste too much time chasing this down, however, despite one of their openers falling to a classy low inswinger from Matt and the other (on 62) being bowled my an incredible turner from James.
Ultimately we lost by seven wickets, but from the position we had found ourselves after just 5 overs it was a great performance, and very enjoyable.
