Hurley CC 2nd XI v The Lee Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 29 May 2021 at 13:00
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
This was truly a game of seven halves. And a badger.
Act 1: A steady start from Ron and Steve
Act 2: Benson and Tor exploded onto the scene. Both started their innings with somewhat agricultural hoiks across the line but then proceeded to show real class as they dispatched the bowling to all parts
Act 3: After the loss of our star batters, a bit of slow consolidation was needed
Act 4: A fine cameo from Richard, who batted fairly well until tweaking his hamstring running a slow second. The cunning ploy worked and now he had his son on the pitch to do the running for him he smashed the bowling through the off side time and again
Act 5: Despite some good bowling from Ed and David, the Hurley opening batters made a solid start, and then exploded into action with the ball flying around
Act 6: Ollie takes 3, Tor catches 2, leaving Hurley a trivial 40 runs to win off 20 overs
Act 7: Inspired bowling and fielding by all, and a masterclass of slow bowling from James saw Hurley still needing 2 to win off the last over
The rest is history, a good days cricket but an agonising loss.
But no match report would be complete without the tale of the badger. No really. A baby badger appeared, slowly meandered across the outfield whilst outpacing most of our fielders, and headed into the hedgerow.
