Match report Once again our skipper lost the toss and the opposition decided to bat. At least they decided to bat once they’d finally arrived. But Lee had prepared their promoted 2’s superweapon, Freddy, who proceeded to bowl beautifully, finally nestling a catch in his relieved Dad’s midriff at gully to provide one of those moments. A continued good line led to another great snaffle at cover for Ali, and when he turned bowler we had another caught in the ring. At the other end Boakesy (senior not junior if you’re reading this in 2029 (yes he did used to have a run up)) had bowled a super spell. The Braywood #3 left hander was batting well, runs were coming, concern was rising whether he could take the match away from us, and Ed’s away swingers (to the left hander) always gave us a chance. And then…Ed bowled an inswinger…to the left hander. In our new liberal world I’m very happy for middle aged men to go the other way, but the chap from Braywood was totally flummoxed by it all, and his stumps went all over the place. That opened the back door (so as to speak) and Jordan and Charlie duly finished the Braywood innings at 96.
That should have been an easy run chase. But Lee decided to even the game up with 3 run outs, and with Charlie and Mike getting a lesson in playing the doosra we were starting to struggle with Ed and D’costa new to the crease. Plan A (run ourselves out like lemmings) clearly wasn’t working and skipper decided to formulate plan B. Both Boakes & Benny Batting Brutally Bash Boundaries Before Beating Braywood. To be fair it was a little more attritional than this, but as the oppo started to lose the plot, the rather drawn out win became even more entertaining.
