The Lee Cricket Club 2nd XI v Penn & Tylers Green 2nd XI on Sat 15 Jun 2019 at 13:00
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by 34 runs
Match report
After the wettest June week in decades the rain finally stopped and we managed to get a game in, though the new roll on covers got a serious workout, with several interruptions for rain (including two in one over!
Skipper James Sharman won the toss and elected to put Penn & Tylers into bat, and it looked like a great decision when opening bowler Ganesh Balan ripped through their top order, taking a very rapid 5-for. At the other end Oliver Cupit was also deadly accurate and economical, and he ended up taking three wickets - the pick if which was a superb grab at gully by Charlie Line. At one stage we had P&TG reeling at 60 for 7, but the rain delays seemed to halt our impetus, and their Australian batting at number 8 proved impossible to get out and hit 82. They ended up on a challenging total of 167
We opened with Jim Cook and 2's debutant Fraser Chapman, who hit a very accomplished 50, before holing out. Unfortunately once Fraser was out we couldn't offer too much resistance, though Sam Harris defied the close set field with a magnificent pull shot for 4, and Ganesh (22) was still looking to try and win the game until he was last man out. We fell short by 34 runs, but it was a fantastic game, with some great individual performances.
