The Lee Cricket Club U10 X v Hawridge & Cholesbury on Wed 05 Jun 2019 at 6pm
The Lee Cricket Club Lost by 41 runs

Match report Result
• 232-9 The Lee
• 273-8 H&C
• The Lee lost the game by 41 runs
• The team improved their calling and running between the wicket, and we took a lot of wickets. Main problem was wides and no balls - cut those out and the game would have been on a knife edge. The team were brilliant as ever.

Great Work
• Emmy Capper – Captain, batted well until a ball hit her on the thumb and she retired from the game.
• Ben Shaw – Captain after Emmy retired, moved the field around well. Scored good runs, good calling and got a wicket maiden.
• Daniel Boakes – top scorer with 13runs and a lovely caught and bowled at the end of the match. Lively in the field.
• Jenson Pickles – last minute sub – he bowled a maiden and took a wicket.
• Freddie Hastings – Accurate bowler – no wides or no balls. Good runs.
• William Leslie – another good effort as wicketkeeper. Scored good runs including a lovely glancing off side shot that brought 2 runs.
• Freddy Beckford – 6 runs batting, 3 wickets. Say no more!
• Ty Pickles – Good calling when batting, got a wicket and ran the same guy (Jake) out later on – always active in the field.
• Charlie Rix – 2nd highest run scorer and some fast bowling
• Millie Tillyer – deadly accurate looping bowling – didn’t give a single wide or no ball. Good calling when batting with Emmy and some useful runs.
• Iris Foreman – Iris injured her leg at school and was unable to play – hope you get better soon Iris! Jenson stepped in at the last minute to give us 10 players.
• Tom Tillyer – stepping in to field when Emmy cut her thumb 3 ball from the end of her batting spell.

Analysis
• We scored 51 runs vs their 59 runs (-8 runs) [much better than 30 runs previous game – much better calling and running between the wickets]
• We gave away 54 runs on wides/no balls, they did 25 runs (-29 runs) [this was the main factor in our defeat – will focus on bowling straight]
• We gave away 8 runs on byes/leg byes, they did 10 runs (+2 runs) [very similar to H&C]
• We lost 9 wkts vs their 8 wkts (-6 runs) [We lost 4 bowled, 0 caught, 4 run out & 1 hit wicket - the guys were aggressively running between the wickets hence the high number of run outs – they will work out what they can get away with but we don’t want to inhibit their aggression – better and quicker calling will help]. H&C lost 6 bowled, 1 caught, 1 run out and 0 hit wicket – our bowling, when on target, was more deadly than H&C’s]
• This contributed overall to a 41 run defeat

Areas to Work On
Our defeat to H&C highlighted a few areas to work on:
1. Batting – our run rate off good balls was 3.12 per over vs H&Cs 4.16 – we need to hit balls more effectively – get more of the kids moving their feet to the ball.
2. Bowling straight to avoid giving wides and put pressure on the batter.
3. Calling is improving but is sporadic – we had to remind several players to call. If the ball goes behind the batter, the non-striker calls, if in front of the batter, the batter calls. Calls should be only Yes, No or Wait. Call Every ball.
4. Non-striking batter backing up - sporadic – the players need to be reminded – this will come with more practice.
5. Wicket keeping – get into position every time, finger tips pointing down to the ground
6. Game awareness and rules – getting better at being alert and running on overthrows
7. Effect that putting pressure on the opposition has when the Lee are:
a. Batting: batting and running hard led to fielding fumbles and overthrows
b. Fielding: getting in close (min 10m) puts pressure on their batters
8. Always be supportive in the field – if someone makes a mistake, console them. If someone does something good, praise them. Keep talking in the field.
9. Walking in as bowler runs in – nominate a fielder to call this every ball. This puts fielders on their toes
10. Always backing up your team mate in the field – and 1 person at each end on the stumps to receive the ball.
11. Moving fielders around in response to where batters are hitting the ball – this will come with time – but will remind captains to be bold and put fielders where they want them to be.

Stato time!
