Match report So another toss lost, and we find ourselves batting again. A solid start at 81-0 off 18 overs to the drinks break, but it went wrong straight away when Mike chipped one to long on. Neil batted on. He watched Sam get one that turned too much, and Tor to one that turned too little. Neil batted on. We lost Charlie to one that stayed low and David to one that bounced. Neil still batted on. There were some mean straight balls that accounted for a few and Moiny got one off both pads and onto the stumps. Well done to Neil for batting through but it was not our day and 127 was probably 30 too short.
But we defended what we had like tigers. David accounted for one of the openers and at the other end Jordan bowled a fine spell to remove the other with the help of a fantastic catch from Phil. And it was Guy's introduction that started to swing the game. Straight, slow and too good...4 wickets fell, and it looked a certainty that a five-for was on the cards. But Dear Reader, I'm sad to have to report a case of double jug avoidance. Firstly those straight ones gave way to some offside long hops. But more seriously our bowling hero moved his offside sweeper to field 'on the bin'. Another long hop later and a ballooned catch-able shot led to the plaintive cry of 'not that bin!'. The case for the defence rests on the fact that our hero meant the orange bin (which no-one else had seen) and not the red one on the boundary (which we all saw). Clearly this rather poor defence was rejected by all and the miscreant will be sentenced at a later date.
Tor and David's second wicket brought it close, but we were short on runs, and bringing PInkneys to 8 down was as good as we could do. In the end our lack of runs, and the tricky colouring of the local bins were too much for us to overcome
