The Lee Cricket Club 2nd XI v Hurley 2nd XI on Sat 29 Jun 2019 at 13:00
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets

Match report The warmest day of the year so far. Skipper for the day Charlie Line won the toss and elected to put Hurley into bat. It looked as if this decision may have backfired when their two stalwart openers had a 150 run opening partnership - but then a great catch behind by Charlie opened the floodgates, and four quick wickets from LJ Martin suddenly reduced them from 150 for none to 174 for 5. LJ's four wickets included stunning catches by York Woodford-Smith (making a rare appearance on a Saturday) and Jack Stark (making a welcome return after a few years playing golf!). When debutant Anand Sharma bowled their other opener it left them with not a great deal of batting, and Anand, Sam Harris and Fraser Chapman mopped up the remaining wickets to leave Hurley on 227 all out from 41 overs.
That left us 49 overs to bat, and Fraser and Steve Pain set off at a brisk pace in chasing it down. They notched up a 50 opening partnership before Steve was caught for 20, but then LJ continued where he had left off, hitting 5 boundaries in his 37. Skipper Charlie was next to the crease, and he played a very measured innings, punishing the bad balls when he saw them (and there were quite a few) but not taking any risks. It was looking like a comfortable run chase until Fraser was caught out for 65, and there was a flurry of wickets as Jack was stumped and then Anand, Ganesh Balan and Dharmendra Pathak were all bowled in quick succession. There were still more than 50 runs required when Sam Harris came to the crease, and the Hurley bowlers were sensing a victory. Sam blocked obstinately, whilst letting Charlie notch up the runs at the other end. Sam was eventually bowled with about 5 overs left. Ollie Hale came in and blocked a few out, whilst Charlie sensed the need to get it over and done, and hooked a massive six into the nettles in the corner, and then stroked a fine drive through the covers to win the match with 1.5 overs spare. Charlie ended up on 80no - a fantastic captain's innings.
So - after a few weeks of near misses, we have now notched up our first win of the season, thanks to some excellent bowling, superb fielding, solid batting and inspired captaincy - well done the 2s!
