New Committee Members required!

16 Jan 2017

Dear members,

Our AGM is fast approaching (Wednesday 8th February at 7:45pm), and a number of long standing committee members have indicated their desire to stand down, having given many years of dedicated service between them.

As you all know, the club is entirely dependent on volunteers to manage the facilities, the teams, the coaching, the membership lists and the finances. All of the committee roles are fundamental to the success of the club, and we need some more of you to step forward and take on these new challenges.

The specific roles we expect to need to fill are:

Treasurer – Michelle Yeabsley has been doing this key role for a number of years. The primary responsibilities are managing the club’s bank accounts, paying bills, organising cash floats, banking takings and preparing the annual accounts. Michelle has offered to train up her successor over the start of the season, so it would be a gradual hand over. This role would suit someone with an accounting or book-keeping knowledge.

Head of Junior Cricket (Friday nights) – Sue Bishop has been doing this role for the last five years. Going forward we intend to change the role slightly – Rachel Harris (our bar and pavilion manager) will organise the bar and barbecue rotas, so the new Head of Junior Cricket will focus on organising the coaches and coaching groups. This role would suit someone who understands the principles of kwik-cricket, and coaching youngsters, and may require a short training course from the Bucks Cricket Board.

Membership Secretary – Julie Line has been performing this role for a few years, and it involves receiving all of the completed membership forms, and registering the details on our club database. It also involves chasing up members during the season to make sure all subs are collected. We are going to be using the facilities of the website much more this season, so this role would suit someone used to working with websites and databases.

Head of Colts Cricket – This role has been filled by Martin Price, and involves overseeing the hardball coaching for Under 10s-Under 15s on Saturday mornings, supporting the coaches for each age group and ensuring that the colts fixtures (from mid May to mid July are properly scheduled and organised. Martin will do a handover during the season.

Club Welfare Officer – This role, which has been filled by Sue Bishop, involves ensuring that the club’s policies and practices remain up to date and in line with legislation and ECB guidelines, and ensuring that our coaches have appropriate certification. It will involve attending a course run by the Bucks Cricket Board, usually for one or two evenings every couple of years.

Club Secretary – This role has been vacant for a number of years, but really should be filled. The primary responsibility is taking minutes of committee meetings and the AGM. We only have about half a dozen meetings a year, so it is not too onerous.

If you feel you could do any of these roles, or would like to know more or talk it through, then please contact me, or any of the existing committee members. This is your club, and it relies entirely on the voluntary efforts of its members, so please don’t be shy to get involved – you will enjoy it!

Best regards

Patrick Walsh
