Tring v The Lee Cricket Club Sun XI on Sun 28 Jul 2019 at 13:30
The Lee Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
This week's match took us to Tring Park, and a chance to play on a Home Counties Premier League ground. Whilst the outfield was a delight, with none of the surprises we find at home, it may be that the wicket is no better, if indeed, as good as ours. Tring won the toss and decided to bat, leading to an outstanding bowling display from The Lee. Everyone bowled with great discipline, the fielding was almost faultless, and the team performed superbly. Tring started promisingly, but Matt Yeabsley got 2 early wickets, and Tring were never able to shake off the shackles thereafter. Wickets fell steadily, and Harry Rice bowled really well to take 5-31. He was supported by all the other bowlers, and the only blemish was a bungled catch by the skipper. Fortunately it didn't cost Harry his 5-for, despite another miss off the very next ball by an ageing fumbler. An lbw brought the innings to an end. Tring began with 2 younger opening bowlers, and Iain Ward fell for 0. It was great to see Michael Stark back on the field for The Lee, and he played some great shots, one of them the 'shot of the day' through midwicket. It was off Tim Weymes, opening bowler for Tring 1st XI, who might have thought he could roll over a few villagers. The contest between him, Jules 79*, Michale Stark 17 and Mike Cooper 11 was great to see, as all 3 handled the extra pace well. Mike Harris scored a nice unbeaten 20 at the end, hitting the winning runs to round off an excellent display by the team. A really strong performance.
Next week looks to be a challenge, as availability is limited...
